Centrotherm wins $408m PV factory contract in Algeria

The Algerian government awarded a 29.8bn dinar ($408m) contract to Germany’s Centrotherm to build a PV factory near the capital Algiers, and revealed plans for 12GW of renewables capacity by 2030, according to local press reports.

Centrotherm, one of the world’s largest makers of PV production equipment, will build a factory with as much as 120MW of capacity 50km east of Algiers, according to state-run Algeria Presse Service. The facility will be finished in 2013.

“The price we obtained from Centrotherm is very competitive and it is almost the same level of the price in China,” says Noureddine Bouterfa, chief executive of state-run utility Sonelgaz.
