The California Air Resources Board, assigned to the job by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, adopted regulations that boost the state’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) from the current target of 20% by 2010 to 33% by 2020 – giving the state’s utilities the toughest renewable energy requirement in the country.

The RPS has been the primary driver of utility-scale renewable energy projects in California and elsewhere in the West.

Schwarzenegger
