Australia’s capital city of Canberra was rattled with political tremors as the opposition Liberal-National coalition, out of power since 2007, voted to replace Turnbull with the more conservative Tony Abbott by a margin of 42 votes to 41.
Turnbull recently threw his support behind the ETS after Rudd’s Labor Party promised billions of dollars in compensation to carbon-intensive sectors such as power generation and coal mining.
