The announcement, made by climate change minister Penny Wong, comes a day after conservative opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull unveiled a list of proposed amendments to the bill, known as the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

The current timeline would see the parliament’s lower house vote on the legislation during the week of 16 November.

Turnbull’s proposed changes include a raft of measures intended to cushion the effects of the CPRS on coal-fired electricity generators and other carbon-heavy industries, raising the hackles of the renewable-energy industry.
