Being headed up by French utility EDF Energies Nouvelles and compatriot turbine designer Nénuphar, the project will see the first of two 2MW semisubmersible units anchored in 50-65 metres of water some five kilometres off Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, in the lead-off phase of a pilot 26MW wind farm.

"With a high stability through the low centre of gravity, and high reliability due to the missing yaw and pitch controls and gear box, VAWTs are a very promising solution for converting wind energy offshore," says an Inflow spokesman.
