The WTO found that the offer of a feed-in tariff to developers in exchange for using a set level of locally-produced wind and PV equipment in the Canadian province discriminates against foreign suppliers.

But the trade body rejected a second complaint that the feed-in tariff incentives amount to illegal subsidies.

The Ontario complaint was filed against Canada, and the WTO says the country should take steps to bring its policies into line with its obligations under global trade agreements.
