EDF Trading, the group’s London-based wholesale energy arm, acquired Holzkontor und Pelletierwerk Schwedt (HPS), a pellet plant in Germany.
The HPS facility – located near the border with Poland, where EDF is the biggest generator of energy from biomass – can produce 120,000 tonnes of pellets each year.
Demand for biomass fuel is expected to increase in Europe as nations turn to the renewable source to help meet stringent clean-energy targets.
