The Tokyo-based company did not disclose the terms of the deal, but a JFE spokesperson told Recharge that South Korea's Hanwha's Germany-based Q-Cell unit would supply the solar panels for the project. Construction started on a 47-hectare site on 31 July, with completion scheduled for June 2015.

JFE will sell the electricity from the plant to regional utility Hokkaido Electric Power under Japan’s feed-in tariff (FIT) for solar energy.
