Spain’s Acciona has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply electricity from its 684MW wind and solar power portfolio in Chile to Telefonica mobile unit Movistar, doubling the amount of green energy the European utility provides to the telecoms giant.
Under the deal, Acciona will supply Movistar with 108GWh of renewable energy a year, which will cover the power needs of 40% of the telecommunications company’s total network.
