Offshore wind giant Orsted made its biggest step yet into renewables on land with a decision to build a 518MW hybrid project in Texas.

The Danish group expects the Helena Energy Center in the south of the state to be operating by the first half of 2022, combining the 260MW Helena Wind and 250MW (AC) Sparta Solar PV facility.

Orsted has already signed up corporate buyers for some of the output – Henkel for a portion of the wind and Target for a chunk of the solar power.
