Japanese-Danish offshore wind turbine maker MHI Vestas has unveiled the next generation model of its V164 platform, a mighty 9.5MW machine with a retooled transmission system designed for the next wave of European and UK megaprojects.

The souped-up design, which will fly the OEM’s field-proven 80-metre “structural shell” blades powering a drivetrain with an ultra-high torque load gearbox, permanent-magnet generator and full-scale converter, has already been earmarked for several projects and will be available as an upgrade for all current and future orders.
