The world’s largest planned renewable energy plant expects global shipping groups and Asian power giants to be the main customers for vast amounts of green hydrogen and ammonia it produces, said one of the leaders of the mega-scale project who admitted it was until recently seen as “crazy”.

The Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH), which already has consent for 15GW of wind and solar, and hopes to boost that to 26GW, is planning “oil & gas scale” production of green H2 and ammonia for export from its site in Western Australia from 2027 onwards.
