GE has signed a multi-year deal with Veolia North America (VNA) to recycle old wind turbine blades.
The agreement will see blades removed from GE’s US onshore turbines — due to upgrades or repowering projects — being used as a raw material for cement production.
Used blades made of composite materials have long been said to be unrecyclable and have therefore been sent to landfill — an embarrassingly non-green solution for a very green industry.
