The ocean energy sector should get exemptions from strict EU state-aid rules if wave, tidal and floating solar are to have a chance of meeting ambitious new European Commission goals, said industry body Ocean Energy Europe.

In its Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy launched on Thursday, the commission said the EU should have a first 100MW of Ocean energy built by 2025 and 1GW by 2030, which then should be boosted to 40GW by 2050.
