A booming market for unregulated green power supply ranging from heavy industries to shopping malls could add 8GW to Brazil’s wind and solar base over the next two years, helping it shrug off Covid-related demand dips and a lack of government auctions, industry experts told Recharge.

If in the last 10 years Brazil reached 16GW of wind and 2GW of solar PV thanks to solid, 20-year, regulated-market deals between developers and one of Brazil’s 65 power utilities, the next decade looks set be dominated by 'free market' contracts with shorter tenures and a diversity of offtakers.
