There is a local saying that “Brazil is the land of the future, but the future never comes”.

Will this be true for offshore wind?

The potential for the technology is enormous. Brazil has an 8,000km coastline with strong, consistent winds and shallow waters that could host up to 1.2 terawatts of turbines — and offshore developers are already seeking environmental permits for more than 15GW of projects (see panel below).
