Dutch transmission system operator TenneT and UK counterpart National Grid could link wind farms in the North Sea to the power grids of both countries for the first time via subsea interconnectors.

The two countries signed a cooperation agreement to explore the development of a multi-purpose interconnector (MPI) to connect up to 4GW of British and Dutch offshore wind between the two countries’ electricity systems, in effect providing an additional 2GW of interconnection capacity.
