Siemens Gamesa named wind industry veteran Lars Bondo Krogsgaard as head of its onshore wind division as one of three senior appointments designed to help new CEO Andreas Nauen turn the company around.

Krogsgaard was appointed onshore CEO at the Spanish-German OEM as it also named Juan Gutiérrez head of its service unit and Beatriz Puente as chief financial officer.

Krogsgaard, a former chief executive of turbine-maker Nordex and co-CEO at offshore OEM MHI Vestas, will join the company on 1 November with a crucial role in turning around the fortunes of Siemens Gamesa’s onshore operation. He replaces Alfonso Faubel, who will leave the company.

The loss-making land-based division has faced challenges in key markets such as India and northern Europe, and Nauen – who led Siemens Gamesa’s thriving offshore unit until his appointment as group CEO in June – this week even faced questions over the company’s commitment to the onshore sector.

Gutiérrez, formerly head of service in the Americas for Siemens Gamesa, replaces Mark Albenze, who is retiring as service CEO.

Nauen said of the hirings: “We are currently engaged in a turnaround process that aims to deliver long-term sustainable growth and profitability to Siemens Gamesa and we need a strong management team to drive that.

“Each of these individuals brings a different skillset and expertise that will not only help them to manage their functions but also lead the company.”

Siemens Gamesa still has to name a permanent replacement for Nauen as offshore CEO.
