German utility RWE and ThyssenKrupp have agreed to develop a long-term joint hydrogen partnership in order to replace polluting fossil fuels such as coke and pulverised coal with the green gas in the steel maker’s production process.
“We aim to be completely climate-neutral by the year 2050. We currently expect that for this we will need around 750,000 tons of hydrogen annually,” ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe chief technology officer Arnd Köfler said.
