The Virginia House and Senate passed landmark renewable energy legislation that declares offshore wind to be in the “public interest” and doubles the capacity development goal to 5.2GW – behind only New York and New Jersey among US states.

Virginia presently has a two-turbine, 12MW demonstration project and a three-stage, 2.64GW array – the nation’s largest – under development in federal waters by Dominion, the state’s dominant electric utility.
