Vineyard Wind no longer expects its eponymous $2.8bn offshore wind development – the US’ first utility-scale sector project off its shores – to enter commercial operation in 2022 after the government issued a revised permitting timeline that could potentially push back final approval to December.

“While we need to analyse what a longer permitting timeline will mean for beginning construction, commercial operation in 2022 is no longer expected,” said Lars Pedersen, CEO of the Boston-based developer, a joint venture (JV) between Iberdrola-owned Avangrid and Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
