Renewables will rise to dominate worldwide power production by mid-century, reaching as high as nearly 40% of global capacity, but it is “wishful thinking” to believe new energy technologies will save civilization from the mounting threat of climate change, according to a new report from Capgemini that paints a bleak portrait of a future in which the “abandonment of fossil fuels is very unlikely” as population and energy demand continues to grow.
