British Prime Minister Boris Johnson may have promised that the UK will achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, but new figures show that the onshore renewables build-out is still being held back by government policy.

According to analyst Cornwall Insight (CI), there are 4.59GW of onshore wind projects and 1.5GW of solar arrays awaiting construction — which are being held back by restrictive planning rules and exclusion from the UK’s Contracts-for-Difference (CfD) support mechanism.
