Global offshore wind pacesetter Orsted has been named the world’s most sustainable company in the latest Global 100 ranking of major corporates.

Orsted – which has transformed itself from the fossil-focused Dong Energy into the planet’s leading developer of wind at sea – became the first energy group to lead the rankings compiled by Corporate Knights, which hailed the Danish group’s dramatic reduction of carbon emissions with simultaneous business growth.

Orsted is continuing to expand in offshore wind while also moving into other areas such as onshore wind and solar, storage and green hydrogen as part of a broader energy transition strategy.

CEO Henrik Poulsen told Corporate Knights: “Running the company just for profit doesn’t make sense, but running it just for a bigger purpose is also not sustainable in the long term. Doing good and doing well must go together.”

Other companies from the clean energy and renewables sectors on the top 100 list include Enel (8), Iberdrola (17) and Vestas (37).
