This article is part of an in-depth special report on green hydrogen

Hydrogen-powered fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) drive like battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with similar fast acceleration, zero emissions and minimal noise, but are fuelled at service stations in the same way as petrol and diesel cars. FCEVs have an extra advantage of a longer range — the Hyundai Nexo, for instance, can drive 600km on a single “charge” — and would therefore reduce the “range anxiety” that has put some drivers off buying BEVs.
