Japan has spotlighted four “advanced sea areas” off its coasts for wind power auctions, as part of a wider strategy that will see 11 areas off five prefectures explored as offshore wind promotion zones, according to the Japanese Wind Power Association.

The Japanese ministry of economy, trade, industry and energy (METI) and the ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism are to start preparations for wind measurements and geological surveys on the first four zones.
