Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has won its largest order in Ukraine so far, for the 164MWE Myrnenska wind project in the southern Kherson region.
The contract by developer Vinkraft includes supply, installation and commissioning of 39 of the OEM’s V150-4.2MW turbines as well as a 20-year service agreement.
“With this order we continue to build on our valued cooperation with Vindkraft as well as on our position as a market leader in Ukraine,” said Vestas Northern & Central Europe president Nils de Baar.
Turbine delivery is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2019.
Ukraine is transitioning from a feed-in tariff based support regime to auctions by the end of this year. The Eastern European country has been adding wind capacity fast, also as a means to decrease its dependence on neighbouring Russia in energy.
“We first partnered with Vestas in 2011 and for our new wind power plant Myrnenska, we once again choose Vestas because of their leadership in wind energy and our belief that they have the necessary technology, experience and reliability to develop a relatively young market like Ukraine,” said Carl Sturen, general manager of Vindkraft.
“We are determined to develop a project portfolio of wind power plants in Kherson to contribute to the overall growth of renewable and green energy production in Ukraine.”
