The numbers look good on paper. Redevelop a wind farm using 30% fewer turbines with nameplates four times bigger and get up to 40% more power out of a project. And with a smaller number of machines onsite, owners can cut operations and maintenance (O&M) costs too.
But with an ever-wider range of options for wind farms coming to the end of their working lives, repowering has yet to take off.
