Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), one of the pioneers of the wave energy industry, has set the seal on a so-called ‘master service contract’ with an unnamed US offshore oil & gas operator to use its PowerBuoy technology to power a major decommissioning project in the Gulf of Mexico.

OPT will provide a range of autonomously-powered wave-riding units to charge-up electric underwater construction robots known as Rovs during well plugging and abandonment.
