Two years of “robust” negotiations with the government has set the offshore wind sector on a path to providing half of the nation's electricity by mid-century, claimed an industry executive who played a key role in the sector deal announced today.

“This is just a stepping stone,” said Benj Sykes, UK country manager for developer Orsted and co-chair of the country’s Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC), as the deal was unveiled to propel offshore wind to one-third of supplies by 2030 from a 30GW installed base.
