IEA: offshore wind could reach almost 200GW by 2040

The International Energy Agency (IEA) sees offshore wind as a “rising global force on the energy landscape”, executive director Fatih Birol told the WindEurope conference, part of the Global Wind Summit in Hamburg.

Separately, Birol warned that having crunched the numbers from January-August, it would be a “major surprise” if global carbon emissions did not rise again in 2018 for the second year running – having plateaued during the 2014-16 period.
