Danish offshore wind developer Orsted will deploy a floating Lidar (light detection and ranging) unit at its Ocean Wind project site in the US Atlantic, following the signing of a deal with specialist contractor Axys Technologies.

The company’s FLiDAR WindSentinel, a moored buoy-based system that collects data on wind speed, direction and turbulence at turbine hub-height, as well as wave conditions, will be installed some 10 miles (15km) off the coast of New Jersey to help determine the "best locations and positions" for wind turbines on the federally leased area.
