Next-generation dynamic cables, new mooring technology and redeveloped manufacturing infrastructure to underpin serial production are the key pinch-points facing the fast-approaching industrialisation of floating wind power, according to a new report from the UK’s Carbon Trust.

The findings, from the first phase of technical work delivered in 2017 by the body’s joint industry project (JIP), will be fundamental to the acceleration of the commercialisation of the sector, which is expected to grow from a current installed base of 50MW to over 12GW by 2030.
