German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store ahead of a meeting with Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said they will ask that a ‘coordination unit’ be set up for the protection of critical underwater infrastructure such as oil & gas and power export lines and telecommunication cables.

Scholz, speaking at a press conference in Berlin yesterday (Wednesday), didn’t specificially mention offshore wind farm and power trunklines installed at sea, but recent attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea – which are in close vicinity to waters where several gigawatts of wind power plant is planned – have triggered concerns about terror drone strikeson these projects.
