Germany’s offshore wind industry said backing by the nation’s government for an increased 50GW ambition by 2035 is a boost to the sector and its plans to link with green hydrogen, but warned key details still need to be addressed to meet the raised ambition.

The new goal – exceeding the minimum of 40GW previously targeted – will be pursued through annual tenders for 4GW from 2027, under an agreement signed on Thursday between the federal government, northern states and transmission operators.
