German utility RWE has lined up Siemens Energy as preferred supplier for the design, construction and installation of the onshore high voltage substation at its 1GW Thor offshore wind project in Denmark, and Netherlands-based HSM Offshore Energy for the substation at sea including its jacket foundation.

The green power will be transported from the project at about 22 kilometres from Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland through export cables to the new-build onshore substation Volder Søndervang, which is located close to the coastline and the adjacent grid connection point of the Danish grid operator, Energinet.
