The US can achieve President Joe Biden’s 2035 net-zero electric grid target, with the resulting environmental and health benefits exceeding the $330bn to $740bn in required additional power system costs, according to a new National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) study.

The study, done in partnership with the Department of Energy (DoE), found multiple pathways to 100% clean electricity, but the exact technology mix and costs will be determined by research and development (R&D), manufacturing, and infrastructure investment decisions over the next decade.
