France finally started flowing electricity from large-scale offshore wind when turbines from its debut utility-scale project, the 480MW EDF-led Saint-Nazaire, produced first power.

The first 27 of 80 GE Haliade 6MW turbines are now in place at the Atlantic site off northwest France and connected to the grid by network operator RTE, said EDF Renouvelables, which is building the wind farm in consortium with Canada’s Enbridge and CPP Investments.
