Orsted and ATP together with their construction partners have presented a ‘future proof’ concept for the upcoming tender for an energy island in the Danish North Sea, envisaging a small artificial island that can be expanded with flexible modules to be added or replaced as needed.
The modular approach would make it easier to add more than the 10GW of offshore wind power Denmark plans to link to the energy island and accommodate rapid developments in power-to-x and other technologies, the Danish utility and pension fund said.
