British start-up Floating Energy System’s innovative ‘stinger keel’ floating wind platform design has moved a key step forward in its development, with model tests completed at compatriot HR Wallingford’s wave tank.

The work, being carried out as part of a one-year Innovate UK project, is putting the concept – one of a number of technologies now coming to market with hinged or retractable keels to accommodate shallow-draft construction yards and deepwater project sites – through extensive physical and computational modelling to help optimise the design engineering.
