The state of Maryland upped its round 2 solicitation award from 1.2GW to 1.6GW in a surprise move that enables US Wind and Orsted to deliver power from more than 800MW of capacity, with the former setting a new record-low US offshore wind price.

Maryland’s two incumbent developers had each pledged over $500m in in-state investment and procurement contingent on at least 800MW in offshore renewable energy credit (OREC) awards.
