The Spanish government has decided to retract a so-called ‘gas tax’ on renewables producers in most cases that would have effectively clawed back revenue of certain wind farms, WindEurope said.

Madrid earlier this year had pushed the measure through parliament amid surging power prices for consumers that had first risen due to a heat wave and later on rising gas prices, arguing renewables operators make large windfall profits with wind and solar power as a consequence of soaring gas prices on wholesale markets.
