With a national goal of 30GW by 2030 and ever-growing backing from individual states, the political momentum behind US offshore wind is now huge – but significant obstacles remain before it can fulfil the ambitions of President Joe Biden or governors from Connecticut to California, a high-level Recharge digital roundtable heard.

Opening the event, Recharge Editor-in-Chief Darius Snieckus said: “The US faces a series of very sizable hurdles – a nascent supply chain, no US-flagged installation vessels yet ready for assignment, ongoing frictions with the fishing sector in the Atlantic, questions remaining about transmission of offshore wind power into the grid.
