Global mining giant Rio Tinto is planning to tap 6GW of wind and solar to decarbonise its vast iron ore and aluminium operations in Australia.

The Anglo-Australian group, one of the world’s largest in its sector, is looking for “rapid deployment” of 1GW of turbines and PV to cut emissions from its iron ore operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, CEO Jakob Stausholm told investors as he unveiled a sweeping emissions-reduction programme.
