Investment commitments totalling over £900m ($1.2bn) have be earmarked for UK factories linked with the country’s burgeoning offshore wind sector so far this year– the largest influx of capital since the industry’s beginning over two decades ago, new research from RenewableUK has found.

News this week from cable-maker JDR of plans to build a new manufacturing facility in the near Blyth in Northumberland, in the north-east of England, a part of a £130m spend is the latest in a string of major investments in the sector that includes US giant GE’s recently revealed multi-million-pound plans to transform a former steelworks site, also in the north-east of the country, into a state-of-the-art blade fabrication plant.
