Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk has secured green e-methanol produced from renewable energy for what will be the world’s first container vessel running on carbon-neutral fuel.

REintegrate, a unit of Danish renewable energy developer European Energy, will build a facility in Denmark to produce the about 10.000 tonnes of e-methanol that the vessel is slated to consumer per year.

E-methanol usually is synthesised by adding CO2 that previously was captured to green hydrogen made via electrolysis from water and renewable power.
