With the world’s third-largest coastline of almost 60,000 kilometres and strong winds, Australia has abundant offshore wind resources, and the technology could contribute to its energy system due its to higher capacity factors than onshore renewables, a government-sponsored report by the country’s Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (CRS) found.

There are currently over 10 projects for wind farms at sea proposed in Australia, with over 25GW in capacity, the report called ‘Offshore Wind Potential for Australia’ said.
