Engineering conglomerate JFE will build Japan’s first offshore wind foundation plant, in a boost to the nation’s plans to build a local supply base for its coming build-out of turbines at sea.

Tokyo-based JFE said it will produce monopiles and transition pieces at a plant in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, with plans later to add capabilities for jacket structures to give it “a full lineup system for offshore wind power foundation manufacturing”.
