Three airlines have signed up to retrofit regional turbo-propeller aircraft to run on hydrogen.

National airline Icelandair, Iberia franchisee Air Nostrum and US regional airline Ravn Alaska all signed letters of intent with Los Angeles-based start-up Universal Hydrogen last week to replace kerosene-powered engines on short-haul planes with hydrogen-powered fuel-cell electric drivetrains.
