South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) planted its flag in the floating wind sector with the announcement of a platform to support a 9.5MW turbine that it said will compete for projects at home and abroad.

SHI said it has received approval in principle for its Tri-Star Float system from classification group DNV, and will initially target the 6GW floating wind mega-complex being planned in South Korea’s East Sea by 2030.
